Join the composers from ACO's Underwood New Music Readings for a day of workshops exploring the business and realities of being a professional composer. These invaluable talks, led by leaders in the industry, provide information ranging from copyright and commission agreements, to music preparation, to promotion, and fundraising.

The workshops are a practical guide for any composer wishing to gain a better understanding of these critical aspects to success as a composer today. Previously only available to participants in the Readings, ACO has made a limited number of spaces available to aspiring composers from the community for a small registration fee. Lunch is provided during the workshop.

About the Presenters:

James Kendrick

James Kendrick is an attorney specializing in intellectual property, copyright and publishing. Trained as an oboist at the Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School, Mr. Kendrick began his publishing career in 1977 helping to establish European American Music (EAM) before studying law. Following graduation from Rutgers Law School in 1983, he specialized in intellectual property matters with a particular emphasis on the music and audio-visual industries. In addition to practicing law, Kendrick has also served as Chief Executive Officer of Boosey & Hawkes, Inc. He rejoined EAM as President in March 2002, and currently serves on the board of directors of ASCAP.

Trained as a composer at Juilliard and University of Michigan, Bill Holab is the owner of Bill Holab Music. His company provides copying, publishing, and promotional services to many of today's leading composers. Prior to establishing his own company, Mr. Holab worked in numerous positons throughout the Music INdustry including Director of Publications for G. Schirmer/Associated Music Publishers, Director of Production for Universal Edition, and Director of Sales and Publishing for Schott Music Corp. He consults for both MakeMusic (Finale) and Sibelius.

Ed Harsh
Appointed President of Meet The Composer in 2007, Ed Harsh's background includes fifteen years of professional experience in the arts. Aside from his work with MTC, his principal positions have included the Managing Editor of the Kurt Weill Edition, Director of Development of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and Managing Director of Sequitur new music ensemble. He has completed commissioned work for many prominent ensembles, among them the Albany Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, New Millennium Ensemble, and American Baroque. His compositions are recorded commercially on the Albany, Santa Fe New Music, CRI, and Neuma labels.

Christina Jensen
Christina Jensen is a public relations professional whose clients have included composer, pianist, and conductor André Previn, the Chiara String Quartet, pianist Simone Dinnerstein, composer Jefferson Friedman, composer Lisa Bielawa, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Finnish record label Ondine, pianist Rudolf Buchbinder, violinist Arabella Steinbacher, Bang on a Can, the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME), the School of Music at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and Boston University's College of Fine Arts. Prior to launching her own firm, Christina was also a publicist with Cohn Dutcher Associates, a boutique public relations firm specializing in the classical music field.
